Darwinia /
ControlTower![]() From the manual: "Almost all buildings in Darwinia can be reprogrammed using nearby Control Towers. Many of the buildings have been corrupted by the Virus and need reprogramming before they can be used. To do this you must create Engineers nearby and they will do the job. Control Towers will flash red if they are infected with the Virus, and Yellow if they have been successfully reprogrammed." At the beginning of the game, most of the control towers in Darwinia have been corrupted by the virus. In most levels, it is necessary to capture control towers in order to create new units, operate player controlled buildings, and research improvements to various programs. A control tower may be captured by ordering one or more engineers to the control tower. If they are close enough, they will automatically begin the task of reprogramming the building. Reprogramming takes several seconds, though this time can be decreased by using additional engineers. Once a control tower is captured, it is possible for the player to operate any building that is attached to the control tower. For instance, if a radar dish is attached to a control tower, the player may aim that dish and use it for unit transport only after the control tower is captured. Additionally, engineers and squads can only be created near captured control towers. As such, the capture of control towers plays a vital role in the strategy of Darwinia. Control towers also provide a hidden function: that of providing research points to the player. When a control tower is captured, 22 research points are added to the player's pool of points. These points are then slowly applied to whatever research topic that the player has chosen. Page last modified on March 20, 2006, at 03:42 PM - Page generated in 0.067 seconds. |
